Surprisingly, I never really thought about having to pick a field of study (i.e. sociology, Chemistry, Physics) to stick with when I was younger until I was playing music with my friend in Milano, Italy. I was originally studying abroad in Ireland and wanted to learn how to sing Sean Nos, a form of Irish folk singing... He was trying to tell me that I should just drop everything and study music.
The problem was, I had always had my foot in a lot of different things. I sang in boys choirs, played american football, acted in plays, hiked mountains while speaking Norwegian, loved to read great literature, rowed varsity crew, got 'As' in Biology, Chemistry, Math, physics ... bla bla bla, The point is I never really wanted to see these subjects as different from one another. Or at least I always saw them as overlapping, quite a bit!...
What if they weren't technically supposed to be separate. what if I told you that for the majority of human history, they weren't ever separate, nor should they be. Would you accept your place in a black box? Or would you see the world differently?
